Disk Pulse Editor's Review
Let me ask you a question, can you trust your PC? I mean, there are moments when you realize that the hard drive's been thrashing away for the last few minutes when you're just at the desktop, with no applications running. What is it actually doing? It's clear that it is doing something, you're just not sure what. Ok, your hard drive might be silent and you can't hear anything, but still, isn't it awkward when your hard disk LED is flashing like mad for minutes even if you're not doing anything? Well, thanks to Disk Pulse, we can find out quite easily what is it actually doing.Disk Pulse is an application designed to monitor any drive or directory for changes. Did a file get created, deleted or modified? Everything is written down clearly along with the date, time and path. Practically, you'll see a list of matching files that are being created, deleted or modified which will probably tell you all you need to know about the program responsible for accessing the drive.
To start monitoring a drive or a folder, launch Disk Pulse, click Monitor, choose a drive or folder that you want to watch (add as many drives or folders as you want). After this, select the types of file system change to monitor (using the Monitor tab) and than select which events should be monitored (using the Events tab). You can click Start now. Disk Pulse will begin to list in the main window all the files that are being accessed in real-time. Notice that you can can pause/stop the monitoring at any time. Additionally, Disk Pulse can categorize the file activity by extension, change type, user name, file size and file type.
Pluses: Easy to use.
Drawbacks / flaws: Unfortunately, Disk Pulse can't tell you which process is responsible for disk activity. Moreover, functions such as the ability to save reports as HTML, TXT and CSV format, monitor specific files types, and email notification are available only in Pro version which cost $25.
In conclusion: Even if it has its limitations, Disk Pulse may help you track down which programs are not letting your hard drive in peace, and perhaps, malware which are digging in your hard drive.
